Trip Highlights
- Doodhpathri's untouched 'valley of milk' meadows

- Full Gulmarg Gondola experience including Phase 2
- Two nights on Dal Lake houseboat
- Betaab Valley and Aru Valley in Pahalgam
Overview
This is the itinerary for people who've either been to Kashmir before and want to go deeper, or who simply have the time and want to see all of it properly rather than the four-town highlight reel. Eight days lets us add Doodhpathri — a genuinely less-visited meadow that most short itineraries skip entirely — and push out to Sonamarg for the Zojila Pass and Thajiwas Glacier, both of which need a full extra day to do without rushing. If Srinagar-Gulmarg-Pahalgam is Kashmir's greatest hits, this trip is closer to the full album.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
1Day 1: Arrival and Houseboat Check-in
Meals: Dinner
Day 1: Arrival and Houseboat Check-in
Meals: Dinner
Arrive in Srinagar and transfer by shikara to your houseboat on Dal Lake. Evening free to settle in and watch the lake traffic wind down toward dusk.
Houseboat on Dal Lake
2Day 2: Srinagar City and Doodhpathri
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 2: Srinagar City and Doodhpathri
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Morning at the Mughal Gardens, then a drive out to Doodhpathri — literally 'valley of milk', named for its milky-white streams and rolling green meadows. It's less developed than Gulmarg or Pahalgam, which is exactly its appeal: fewer crowds, more silence, ponies grazing loose across open grassland.
Houseboat on Dal Lake
3Day 3: Sonamarg, Zojila Pass and Thajiwas Glacier
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 3: Sonamarg, Zojila Pass and Thajiwas Glacier
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
A full day out to Sonamarg, roughly three hours from Srinagar. Depending on season and road conditions, we push toward Zojila Pass — the dramatic high-altitude route toward Ladakh — before doubling back for a pony ride up to Thajiwas Glacier, where snow persists well into summer. This is a long day, but it's the one most travellers rate highest afterward.

4Day 4: Gulmarg — Full Gondola Experience
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 4: Gulmarg — Full Gondola Experience
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Drive to Gulmarg and take the Gondola through both stages, Phase 1 to Kongdori and Phase 2 up to Apharwat Peak at nearly 4,000 metres — genuinely one of the highest cable car points in the world. The views from the top, weather permitting, stretch toward Nanga Parbat.

5Day 5: Gulmarg to Pahalgam
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 5: Gulmarg to Pahalgam
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Drive from Gulmarg to Pahalgam, roughly three and a half hours, arriving in time to settle in before evening. Pahalgam's forested character is a deliberate contrast to Gulmarg's open highlands.
Hotel in Pahalgam
6Day 6: Betaab Valley and Aru Valley
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 6: Betaab Valley and Aru Valley
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
A full day around Pahalgam covering Betaab Valley's meadows and river, plus Aru Valley — quieter still, ringed by glaciers, popular with trekkers as a starting point for longer routes but easily enjoyed as a day visit too.
Hotel in Pahalgam
7Day 7: Return to Srinagar
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 7: Return to Srinagar
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Drive back to Srinagar via Pampore's saffron fields and the Awantipora ruins, with the evening free for shopping in Polo View Market or Lal Chowk.
